Notes on the grant of rent allowance to and provision

of free quarters for European officers.

For Overseers, Land Bailiffs, etc.

1.

At present all European subordinate officers except

officers of the Senior Clerical and Accounting Staff (who are

dealt with below) are provided with free partially furnished

quarters.

If quarters are not available, allowance may be

granted as follows :-

(a) To a married officer, 3110 a month or the actual

rent paid by the officer, whichever is the less.

(b) To similar officer as (a), if a self-contained

tenement is not rented, a lodging allowance of $70

a month.

(c) To an officer with no dependents in the Colony, 2

lodging allowance of $50 a month.

For Senior European Officers.

1.

An officer occupying Government quarters shall, unless

entitled to free quarters, e.g., the Colonial Secretary and the Chief Justice, pay rent monthly at the rate of 6% of the

officer's salary for unfurnished quarters and 7% for furnished

quarters.

2.

If no quarters are available, an officer may receive a

rent allowance equivalent to the difference between the monthly unfurnished rent plus taxes and 6% of his salary. The monthly rent plus taxes is subject to the following maxima :-

(a) Salary exceeding £1,400 p.a.

$250.

(b) Salary exceeding £1,100 p.a. but not exceeding
